Idk the origin because there a quite a few conflicting sources ... you can just Google

But the explanation I liked on why it got so popular was that it represents the state of calm and tranquility humans wanna have so bad ... because the modern world is so "stressful" and "fast-paced", one way the people can "take back power" is by looking at adversity and just be "chill" about it with no worry.
