I’m not writing this to ramble like a nihilistic schizo, but for a while I’ve really struggled with understanding why normies rely on goals/future aspirations for a sense of identity.

Hearing about all these guys committed to “becoming the best version of themselves” genuinely confuses me, do they not realise that all they will feel is a temporary high once they finally fulfil those goals/ambitions?

And the thing is, if you question the status quo in this way then there’s somehow something wrong with you.

What is the purpose of living to attain empty hits of validation that basically mean nothing in the grand scheme of life, no one will remember, and once you’re dead even if they do remember, it won’t matter anyway.

Do other people not see this? It’s like I can’t find a single person my age IRL who can relate to this deep feeling. Everyone thinks that one day in the future they’ll magically be happy somehow :feelswah:

Could not agree more. Seeking “long-term gratification” over “short-term gratification” is still gratification-seeking, and gratification can only be temporary.

Regardless of the normie red-pilled cope though, there’s no doubt that living a hedonistic lifestyle is more miserable than a disciplined one.

But it isn’t really fulfilling though is it?

I just don’t know where normies get all these ideas about some blissful paradise lying somewhere in the future from.

It's easy to question the meaning or point of any given thing but the way I see it: you only get one life, why not make the best of it, and maybe use it to ensure a good life for those who come after you be it for your own offspring or for your community. I feel the crippling depression of potentially wasting your life would be more crushing than getting some personal amusement out of it and later settling down with the sense that you saw what the world has to offer.

I’m pretty sure it’s the fact that I believe in God and everything that the Bible teaches, but at the same time I feel incomplete without any real formative experiences. The youth that I have in mind wouldn’t really be possible if I were to truly commit myself to God to be honest.

Also there is a fundamental difference between living with a false idea of some blissful future in mind and being a disciplined person.

I hope what I explained makes some sense, it’s like no matter who I try to explain any of this to, I just get shut down.
