Everything already works whats the point of a private project?

I never once ran into a situation where I had to fix a problem by creating a solution myself.

Those "private projects" are holding all our modern digital infrastructure...

It says it right there, in 2003, you really think there is something left in 2025?

Brother lives in the upside-down.
Give me one example then, I never ran into one tbh.
Since 2003, yes, there is plenty of modern stuff that depends of old code...
Okay, but why would I as the consumer care about this, some guy has the job to fix this.

The whole concept of an exam is to find the solution yourself. Nonetheless, you'll have had a squeaky door and fixed it, missed an ingredient in cooking and improvised, repurposing an old object, making a custom tool out of scraps, using a paperclip to open up something, using a rubber band to open a stubborn lid (or just popping the vacuum with a knife), stuffing something at the bottom of an old door to prevent the draft, making a quick bookmark out of a sticky note. There's a lot you've surely done.

None of them actually did. They do useless projects just to indulge in tinkering while in a state of mania, but quickly abandon them again.

I think if you have lots of side projects, you are an ADHS ridden dullard without sufficient introspection and humility to understand that all of that is a waste of time.

Not the type of guy I want on my team.

All of those examples are a problem where I needed a solution.

I never ran onto such a problem in my technical devices tough.

I think those private projects are done out of passion, for fun or to be added on the resumé for better job opportunities.
