Messed my skin up pretty bad when I was younger. I thought I'd have acne forever and got bullied for it (by family and friends, lol). I started using a bunch of strong acids on my face to try and fix it, but that just made everything ten times worse.
I eventually realized that a lot of modern skincare is just vague products with general instructions that can do more harm than good if your skin doesn't actually need them. I stopped everything except moisturizer, and my acne has been gone for years now.
The thing is, I'm still left with some scars. I'm planning on seeing a dermatologist, so I'm not looking for professional medical advice. I'm more curious about what no bullshit products, like tretinoin, you guys have used that have actually improved your skin's overall quality and helped with scarring. What have you seen the best results with and at what strength?

retin-a, it's prescribed from my derm. none now though when you first start tret your skin gets dry af and sheds a metric shit ton. make sure to have some vaseline on hand when you first start. also avoid direct sun exposure

tretinion, same as the other guy

Korean skincare for me has been a godsend, my skin barrier used to be cooked, I had so many bumps and scars appear on my forehead. Now I'm 80% there to obtaining glass skin.

Tret I've heard works but I don't use it

What mostly helps to get that good skin is an exfoliator (without it your skin will look dull, but also don't abuse it, start with using it once a week then ramp it up if your skin is acclimated to it) cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen

For specifically skin brightening products niacaimide works but watch out some people have sensitives to it. Vitamin C I've also heard can really help with skin quality but it's an active so start slow with it. my skin is really sensitive so Azelaic Acid helps me out

In my case what has helped my skin look good after getting nuked was a hydrating toner, barrier repairing essence / serum, a moisturizer with ceramides, and a sunscreen that didn't burn

My skin isn't 100% clear yet so i think the final puzzle piece for me is either tret or vitamin C but I'm going to wait because my skin is super sensitive and it has finally stopped being red so if I end up nuking my skin again I'll be annoyed
