Obviously people in second and third world countries have worse lives on average, but excluding things like the loss of a loved one, or a girlfriend cheating on you, or even something as extreme as getting into a fight; what percentage of people in the world do you guys think lead mostly good/fulfilling lives?
(I.E. free of major tragedy/danger/pain)

I personally have never experienced a single thing bigger than a mild inconvenience in my entire life, but I would say i’m the outlier.

For example if someone is born into brazil, and lives in a favela their entire life, but is still able watch tv, and has access to food and water, maybe even is able to start a family, I would say they lived a “good” life.

By first-world standards, that person’s life would be considered shitty, and devoid of a lot of things that we have come to enjoy in wealthy and consumerist countries, but in my opinion, they have lived an ok life free of major tragedy.

Another example:
Someone is born into an ultra-wealthy american family.
Their whole life they take trips to Martha’s Vineyard and the Almafi Coast.
They enjoy a life of luxury and sleep with many people of the preferred sex.
When they’re 45 years old they’re kidnapped and tortured for 3 days then murdered.

I would consider this a bad life.
Would you?
Personally I don’t think even a lifetime of opulent indulgence could make up for the type of torture that can be experienced in even a few hours.

Go check out watchpeopledie.tv and tell me if you think anything in there is worth it for a life of luxury.

The latter example is extreme, but I think it’s valuable to consider, when looking at what constitutes a “good” and “Bad” life.

Even though someones entire life may be mundane, and “shitty” in comparison to another’s, I believe it can still be considered a “good” life; without any major pains, physical, mental, etc.

If you had to pick a number, what percentage of people do you think have led “good” lives within the past

20 years
100 years
1000 years
Entirety of humanity

Im gonna go with

65%
55%
35%
10% (perhaps much lower)

Depends on looks and family

define "good"
I literally defined it multiple times in the thread boyo.

Free of major pain; physical, mental, otherwise.

If your life has been very good the whole way through, but then one day you get in a car crash and lose your arm, then i constitute that as a “bad” life.

To me, a good life must be free of any major harm to the given individual’s health, again, physical, mental, or otherwise.

Things like your mom dying or you going into debt don’t disqualify you from a “good” life though, since

The first is very common and basically happens to everyone,
and
The second can be very easily avoided, as well as pretty easily fixed.

Depends on looks and family
I disagree.
Of course being 7 psl and slaying your whole life is the ideal, and the dream, but obviously most of the world is mtn/mtb and leads pretty “okay” / “good” lives.

In my opinion the entire point of your life is to create a family.
When I get a wife do you think i’m going to care about social skills?

My dad literally doesnt leave the house and my paren’t marriage is fine.

Love is the ultimate goal in life.

You’re not thinking deeply enough.
Learn some history and you’ll realize most of it was pretty shit for everyone up until the past like 200 years.
Even in the past 100 years the average quality of live has drastically increased.
Also back in the day you could just get murdered or tortured for no reason and nobody would know.
Torture was essentially popularized, because it was a deterrent for the rampant crime.

Modern medicine obviously didn’t exist so if you got an infection you were cursed to slowly die and wither away.

Women were essentially slaves to their husbands, and children were married off and raped at 5 years old.

You’re deluding yourself if you think the world isn’t practically infinitely better now than it was for most of humanity.

The title said “high IQ” boyo, and judging by how you didn’t even read the thread because you wanted me to define “good” when I already had, and your lack of historical knowledge you should probably just gtfo brah this is too high IQ for you.

I want genuine philosophical users in here.

What if you're born into a rich family and have everything you could possibly want but become a depressed drug addict is that a bad or good life? Or if you have abusive parents and get bullied as a kid but become content and successful as an adult is that good or bad?

I mean everyone has bad experiences its just the ability to move on and keep on ballin that determines your ability to live a good life, and despite what most people say they usually don't move on from breakups and whatnot so it's probably a lot lower than what people think

I can't seem to move on from my bad experiences
How do you move on from it tho?

Well what even is good TBH?
I suppose Good will be your own total life experience.
I’m 17 so I can’t bring much to this topic

I would consider a good life one where I have decent money, social life, personal life and more qualities
