Default (what doctors will reccomend) - Oral finasteride (1mg daily) + topical minoxidil (5%)
Extra strength (if you're not a responder to finasteride) - Oral dutasteride + topical minoxidil

Keep in mind dutasteride is more "risky" with more side effects, also not FDA approved and is a newer drug, it reduces serum DHT by 90-something percent compared to finasteride at 70-something percent though.

Some people also do dermarolling, rosemary oil, ketoconzale shampoo, all have questionable effectiveness and are pseudoscience in my opinion

Topical finasteride is also a good substitute, it in theory doesn't reduce serum DHT levels by as much as oral finasteride, minimizing side effects (libido, gyno, brain fog, etc), but still targets...

Topical finasteride is also a good substitute, it in theory doesn't reduce serum DHT levels by as much as oral finasteride, minimizing side effects (libido, gyno, brain fog, etc), but still targets scalp serum. Studies show mixed opinions on whether this actually happens in practice, it likely achieves a similar effect as using lower doses of oral finasteride (0.2mg every other day, for instance).

Some people use oral minoxidil too, but that has a lot of side effects like cardiovascular, while the worst topical minoxidil will give you is scalp irritation/rash.

Finasteride and dutasteride is really risky IMO, sources online understate their side effects tremendously in my opinion. Consult a doctor (not a low IQ GP, but a specialized dermatologist or endocrinologist) before you hop on fin or dut. You have hair transplants or hair systems/wigs as a last resort anyways. By the time you're in your 30s, Norwood 2/3/4 is socially acceptable regardless, so you can really keep severe recession at bay with purely topical minoxidil + dermarolling in your 20s depending on your genetics and respectability to DHT.
