Before explaining I'll say that there is ZERO downsides to eating carbs. Nothing bad about them. However, in the pagan times there would be literally zero point in cultivating fruits and vegetables (grains are out of the question, obviously) To put it into perspective, an adult deer has ~80 pounds of edible meat and organs. For one man, this would last as 2 months of food. To harvest 80 pounds of fruits/vegetables, would take a fucking lifetime. Literally impossible

This isn't taking into account the fact that vegetables are fucking terrible for you, and fruits yield <5% of the benefit that meat does, but even if we take this out of the equation it would still be fucking illogical from what I first said
