If you've been working out for 2 to 3 years you're not gonna get much buffer without getting fat or holding water.

No , wide waist is determined by hips width.Frame and muscle inserts, not your roid stacks or training splits determine how good you will look ultimately. In photographs this is giga important. IRL you need more overall size and can't get away with being a manlet or just super lean.
I got shit tier muscle inserts and will never look really aesthetic depite being real tall and having wide clavicles. Big rib cage means wide body but it also mean WIDE WAIST and no amount of cutting will change your lower rib cage.
