What would you do with your money if there was a recession or stock market crash?

I'm going to invest all my money in the s&p 500 but in recession years it goes down. In the 2008 stock market crash, the s&p 500 dropped from 1260 to 770 and took 2 years to recover back to 1260. So where do you put your money in a recession or stock crash?
