I got my driver's license a little while ago and am thinking about buying my first. I live in Europe, the Netherlands to be exact.

For all the Americancels that want to recommend their huge ass SUVs and trucks that would barely fit over our roads:

Preferably a car that is fuel efficient, I'm not trying to go broke with these fuel prices.

I should ask what your budget is

But don’t buy a German car for god sake unless you wanna go broke with repairs

Also can you repair your own car? And mod it yourself?

Imo go with a reliable 10 year old Japanese car many good options I could list

A honda civic might be alright, the car can't be too new though, as insurance costs are crazy these days. I might just put the insurance in my mom's name to save money.

Yeah, I haven't heard too much good stuff about most European brands. I think my budget would be a couple of thousand (2K), I don't think I need more to buy a decent first car.

I can do a moderate amount of repairs on my own, but obviously, the more advanced stuff would require me to visit a repair shop or garage (they have insane rates, so preferably not).

I think a Japanese brand would be good. Most important thing would probably be maintenance history though instead of brand

My cousin bought a 2016 Honda civic with a sun roof for 2k cad and then me and him modded it and made it insane

Biggest mistake I see peoppe make is buying big cock cars like a older mustang or like a m3 and then the repairs are so expensive and the car is older to they could pay half the price and get a newer+cheaper car to repair

I don't think a Mercedes is an option, might be something about its drivers because its insurance costs are quite high.
Das auto might also be a questionable brand.
Opel Corsa maybe, if I can find a good deal with reliable maintenance history. In general, though, I think a Japanese brand would be preferable.
The used car market is terribly overpriced currently though, I just laugh out loud sometimes when browsing through some cars listed for ridiculous prices.

Do you have perfect drivers record and will you go on your parents or independent because that effects insurance but Idk how Netherlands does it exactly

Insurance is a bitch

I think most newer cars would be harder to repair since the technology gets more advanced etc, but yeah, getting a huge car is a big mistake. Also, the more expensive the car, usually, the more expensive the parts as well, even if I could do repairs by myself.

I wouldn't mind getting a pretty old car from say 1990 if it weren't for the fact most are rusted out & have no airconditioning.

My friend bought this old rust bucket but he’s spent like 3k in mods and it’s insane but he literally spent a whole year just learning to mod cars and working to afford to mod cars comical

You can put in like a touch screen in older cars that don’t have them with low effort tbh that’s one of the main things old cars don’t have that I think is needed tbh

Here you just need to build "damage-free" years, so, if you've gone a year on insurance and haven't called up your insurance to pay for damage inflicted either to other cars or your own, you've built up a single year and the costs are reduced somewhat. There are several options as well from least to most insured.

The biggest factor is probably age, though, since I'm so young, the costs are a lot higher than someone who is say 29 but has the same amount of damage-free years.

The car itself also matters in insurance costs, certain brands (BMW), just cost more to insure, could be a list of factors but I think certain people driving in certain cars are more likely to have accidents which partially explains.

Even certain colours of cars cost more to insure(red)

Here you get 3 gold stars on your record and you get a free deductible if you have 3 stars and you lose a star if you have to call them and it takes 2 years to regain a star

That’s also with base insurance you pay them monthly or whatever my parents pay it tbh

What are you using your car for anyways? Assuming you live in Dutch suburbs/urban can’t you bus/walk everywheres

Never knew that paint matters as well, would make sense though. These companies will calculate everything so they can maximize profits.

The public transportation here is pretty good relative to other countries, but I do live in the countryside, in a village, to be exact so it's not as good here.

Hell, my village doesn't even have a supermarket so I need to travel a few kilometers to even get a snack. The commute from work/school to my house is another large reason, it is around three hours a day.
It a 1.5h there and 1.5h back, while a car would be just 30 mins there and 30 mins back.

Might not seem long to some people living in bigger countries but for how small this country is that's quite a lot of time in my day spent solely traveling.

insurance and fuel wise I would recommend opel corsa, but impossible under 3k at least in my nation. no experience with asian cars. If your insurance system is similar to ours, I would definitely register it as your parents' (or grandparents') second car and you as the driver. This is the cheapest option for u. Inform yourself alternatively about family rates. You can also partially take over this damage-free levels of your parents later.

No foid cares about anything below Ferrari besides some car freaks. First car for school/collage doesnt matter at all. If you are working buy/lease a new cheap car, like the new 2022 opel corsa for example. If you want to brag get a rarri.

yeah takes me around the same amount of time to bus to the city and it would be about 30mins with a car but I like the bus you just chill and shit or I get car pools if I wanna go

Are you gonna use Kijiji or Facebook to buy the car? Or like a local shop that sales used cars

I’d be careful

When Henry cavill pops out of the tiny japenese car they wanna suck his cock just as much and say “he’s not compensating for anything’s”

When the short fat incel hops out of the lambo she goes “ he’s copensating for something”

We have some specialized websites for buying used cars here but Facebook marketplace is a good spot as well.

I might think about buying from a dealer if I think I found a really good deal. Some of them are pretty shady though.

They're there to make a profit and probably know more about cars than I do so it's always a risk.

Unless you're making bank. There's really no way to afford a car like that unless you go into debt (or nearly anyway) leasing this thing. I'll get a sick car by my late 20s.

I'm about 1.92cm, a lot of small cars are not super comfortable but doable if I adjust the steering wheel and seat. If I decide to buy a car, I'll have to delay moving out though. To be honest, moving out here is already very hard since there's a housing crisis and barely any affordable rooms available. Even if you're willing to live with 7 other sweaty guys.

Guys. Only my first sentence was about women. I drive a car to get from A to B, and a new one so I don't have to maintain it and can enjoy the benefits of new cars.

And ofc when you work a white color job you have to drive a new car. Its about congruence. You dont even need a mercedes or smth similar, just a new car like an opel corsa or cheap new asian car for example. Same goes for phones, its always better status wise to have an iphone than an android.

The roads here are pretty good in general and the country's pretty flat as well so I think it's fine. I did hear some good stuff about the Toyota Yaris, Aygo, and Starlet as well. Wouldn't mind a somewhat faster car either since I live close enough to the German border and Autobahn but beggars can't be choosers.

Reason why low car is bad because if your a tall fuck it’s hard to get in and out of and you’ll bonk your head my dads head is touching the roof in that car also
