Planning on joining in the next couple of months, after I graduate. I have an 80+ ASVAB score and a 3.4 GPA, and I'm looking to complete my four years and put myself ahead of everyone else. Truthfully, I just want to save up, buy my first Section 8 property, and live overseas (where it's cheaper) with my girlfriend forever.

My dad is going with me to the recruiting office so I don't get raped

Any tips and advice friends?

im actually in it idc about self dox im sure no one cares about a grey, 80 asvab score is amazing you can practically choose any job good shit bro, i'd recommend cybersecurity job if you can tolerate sitting at a computer all day its an easy 6 figures+ once you transition back into civilian life if you wanted too

pm me if you have any questions ill answer to the best of my ability

yay, I don't have many questions, I just wanted to hear other first-hand experiences besides that of redditors and my dad ...

Cybersecurity is cool and all, but in the near future, AI will replace such a career. I want to do something medical related, which has about 20-30 years until AI starts to significantly impact career availability in that field.

makes sense, theres a lot of medical in air force for sure, funny because im medical myself. what type of medical job were you looking for? like paramedics, office job paperwork, or what?

How's basic
basic was pretty light for me honestly and air force has the easiest boot camp (of course) theres 8 weeks in total including week 0

week 0: you are fresh off the bus everyones yelling they are trying to instill fear into you and make it known they have authority over you never take it personal they could care less about you they just get paid to yell at you and you get paid to listen just say yes sir to everything they say, pretty much you are getting broke down and rebuilt into a soldier  (cringe i know) in this week 0 you are placed with temporary sergeants that are learning how to be drill sergeants so you might get some chill ones or hard asses. ima pray you dont get a female one they always have something to prove for some reason but theres not much more to this week they are just trying to put fear into you. that first phone call back home hits different though your whole dorm will be crying i held it in barely but i had to hang up quick

week 1: this is where you get your permanent experienced sergeants for the rest of your 7 weeks in this week you are starting to open up to your wingman (its what we call friends), groups form, cliques are made, you find a friend you can talk to and hang out with but if you're lucky your entire dorm will be chill with each other but thats usually never the case since we are all teenagers and shit. but this week youre getting used to your routine in basic training and how everything works

week 2: this is where the nerves start to die down and you can poop again im sure you'll be constipated but this is where you realize its not that bad im pretty sure you get a phone call back home. and yea this week you get your blues uniform which you will wear during your bootcamp graduation and you start learning drill movements this week like how to forward march, coloumn left or flank movements youll understand once you get there but its not that hard to pick up and get i dont remember having trouble with them. and you do a lot of reps, im pretty sure it was a day where we did drill movements all day, i was so tired and ready to sleep lol

week 3: this is where you focus on doing laundry :lul: its called RLA its Recruit Living Area, which includes the recruits' bunks and wall lockers. this one gave me trouble ngl, hospital corners on my bed too (you'll see) its basically just making sure your locker and bed look very nice.. socks rolled up.... shirts rolled up.... pants and jacket folded neatly... its a big thing in your basic experience and if you fail you could get recycled... you dont want to get recycled because then you get sent to a whole nother dorm room with random people youve never met. you could get sent back a week and have to redo a whole week or even two weeks and its very embarrassing its humiliating actually, you have to call your family and tell them its going to be a couple more weeks until my graduation and when i can see you guys. thankfully it never happened to me so dont let it happen to you

week 4: this is where basic gets fun you get sent to the gun range finally... you learn how to shoot a gun and you get to shoot at a target i believe it was if you hit the target 18 out of 22 you get marksman.. i didnt get it unfortunately but it was still an amazing experience my favorite out of the whole boot camp experience, other than this its just learning more drill movements and advanced movements, by week 3 or 4 your dormmates true personalities should be out now and there will def be a couple fights between you guys but its normal just make sure no one snitches

week 5: in this week theres this thing called pacer forge it embodies a deployement setting youre at this desert like location and you get woken up every 2 hours out of your sleep to go on watch for "bad guys" it was pretty ass in my opnion waste of time ngl but the deployement setting was needed just in case you ever do get deployed. not much else to say for this week.

week 6: you're finally almost there everything seems like a breeze you look back to week 1 and 0 and realize how far you've come and it feels nostalgic, you joke around with your drill sergeants at this point and everybody is just ready to see their families again, but dont get too comfortable your drill sergeant can do a whole 180 and get your ass recycled. almost forgot to mention this week is where you take your test its about things like rank. what insignia is this rank. who your chain of command is and shit like that so make sure you study it hella

week 7: the week is finally here your drill sergeant calls you airmen if hes cool enough ig but wednesday comes and your in your dress blues looking nice and fresh and you get to hangout with your family in downtown san antonio for a couple hours personally i went to sea world but you can go wherever around the downtown area, then thursday comes its the same exact thing but a long ass speech thats going to make your legs wobble.. try not to pass out, you get to hangout with your family again and a couple hours later you say you're goodbyes to your family and go back into the dorm room thursday night and start packing to get ready for tech school (which is kind of college i guess, its where they teach you your job) and all you dormmates are leaving 4 by 3 in groups at 12 am, 2 am, 3 am ect... and they wake you up to say goodbye its pretty sad but you can always grab their phone numbers.. i dont talk to any of my bmt friends anymore though but yeah you go with like 3 other people to your new base where you learn your job if you go medical itll be fort sam houston which is one big highschool lol and you have so much freedom its great

let me know if you have any more questions like about tech school and stuff
