Generally 0.98 - 1.01 is ideal on most people,

However if you actually have a tall lower third and decent facial width then 0.95-0.98 as it adds more facial height if it’s not down to IPD and looks way more balanced with the other thirds.

To a large degree ratios do matter, but if you are measuring with ratios you have to be able to recognise based on other facial features if it is actually a flaw for this person,
That takes more skill really.

If someone goes your midface looks long, then fair enough it’s visible therefore flaw.

Measuring it and finding out it’s .0001 of the ideal and it isn’t even noticeable yet being GIGA autist about it is where it pisses me off too.
Like a curry on here had a 1:1 midface but his chin was non existent , his lower third overall , and his midface looked unbalanced as fuck and this retard grey kept saying ‘it’s 1:1 ’, when he looked like a fucking horse jfl

I saw a thread that showed a brachy face and it was wide yes but it looked NOTHING like dicaprio’s skull ,

They corrected his brachy skull with a form of bimax too and it looked 50 fold better.

different cephalic indexes are associated with certain facial features on average though. Brachy tend to have lower ESR and shorter and wider looking faces.

What a pointless thread, midface ratio can’t be perfect at one point without alters. For example Dicaprio could handle very compact midface due to multiple factors like soft and masc features mix, romantic aura due to movies he were playing in, hairstyles and age. In his case 1.1+ ratio wasn’t minus but a big plus cause helped aiming into pretty boy aesthetics while someone with .98 ratio, square jaw and totally masc features could look beautiful to but in totally other way and for absolutely different audience. Cause you can’t appeal to everyone all the time, actually there are multiple factors works together for or against you including not only ratios but features and how the looks itself and how all these works with each other and THE OBSERVER cause you can’t appeal to or can’t appeal to someone depending on preferences. It’s actually also cultural depending too, for example somewhere in South Korea compact midface isn’t women only feature but something desirable for all sexes and it works for all features same way as even skull type preference depends on region as Dolichocephalic, Mesocephalic, and Brachycephalic are all 3 deviations of a skull due to differences in food and environment where ppl were living, same for cheekbones, for jaw, hair and eye color, etc.

Just trying to say it’s about how all stuff works together and pointless when you judging one ratio or feature isolated
