What's the motivation of evil?

And why is it so common?

I wonder if it's that because I had a rough life I'm different.

Doing evil requires no motivation it’s our nature; survivalism

Only doing good requires motivation/incentive

That’s why the law and criminal justice system exist

Would you really say that the killing of a person really requires no motivation? In most instances I'd say it does. Crime normally involves a motivation/ benefit of some kind otherwise none would risk facing the aftermatch if caught.

But I say if you were on the receiving end you would want things to change. I did. After that it wasn't just about consequences, I didn't want to be that person.
