Whats the point of being remembered after your death?

In my honest opinion, Issac Newton's life and accomplishments don't have any more significance than a nobody that died around the same time.


Is he able to see the glaze after his findings and accomplishments? So what's the point?


You have to see the concept of being remembered from the perspective of the person. He's doesn't even exist anymore, so to him it doesn't matter if he accomplished something in his life or didn't.

So what's the point?

For Isaac Newton especially you need to know somethings about his life.

He was a deeply religious man (you can be both a scientist and be religious) and believed that he would find God in his work. He believed that phenomena like the retrograde motion of Mars was evidence that God was spinning them. He was an extreme autist and his life was a journey to find God. As such he did not care whether he'd be remembered.

Whats the fucking point to me?

That's a personal question. Usually the answer is a virtue in that the scientist or humanitarian wants the world to be a better place when he leaves then when he found it. Like Benjamin Franklin's life. On Franklin's deathbed he had been cause in the birth of America.

They probably don't set out with the goal of being remembered. They live in the moment with big ideas of a better world, or better ways of life. Combined with their IQ or philanthropy, they make a treatise on physics or construct hospitals whose history then bares their name and is passed down as new generations learn and that's how they're remembered after their death; wasn't a premeditated decision.
