I’ve never listened to the newest album. I should. Around The Fur and White Pony are my favorite albums. Got into them over ten years ago.

My bad. I’m from a non-English-speaking country. It’s technically a metalcore band but I saw them live. :)

Wow! I was listening to that today. It’s their 2008 album. They were a very influential band, active from 2004 until 2024. They disbanded last year. They’re often described as “your favorite metalcore band’s favorite metalcore band” because of how they’ve inspired many metalcore bands.

Yes, and I’m glad you’re digging it! They had two different vocalists, the one you’re listening to is the second vocalist. IMO, he’s got the superior voice but you can also try A Victim, A Target and then The Year Summer Ended In June which is from the first 2004 album and features the first vocalist. The Year Summer Ended In June is about two of his friends and band mates who died in a car crash, whereas he survived. It’s more emotional so let me know what you think of that when you’re done with Controller.

Did they make entire albums with only one of the vocalists or do they change the vocalist through out the album? Im halfway through with controller rn I think Im going to listen to the album “Of Malice And The Magnum Heart” after this one. Im also going to try to learn playing some of their song on my guitar some of the riffs are pretty cool

Alright, so in terms of albums it goes like this:

Of Malice And The Magnum Heart (2004), first vocalist

Mirrors (2006), second vocalist

Controller (2008), second vocalist

Absent Light (2013), second vocalist

Ultraviolet (2020), first vocalist

They basically kicked out the first vocalist and then recruited another through MySpace I believe, and then the first vocalist focused on his career as he became a high school English teacher. It’s funny because you can see in the comment sections on YouTube of some of their songs how that the vocalist is or was their teacher. Imagine that, having a teacher who’s fronting a metalcore band.

When I saw them live, the first vocalist sounded like a beast! I heard the recordings so many times but it was different in real-life, in a good way.

The songs A Victim, A Target & The Year Summer Ended In June are off of Of Magnum And The Malice Heart. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems that A Victim, A Target was ahead of its time, if you look at the lyrics, it seems critical of today’s MeToo era, even though it was released in 2004. What do you think? The lyrics go like this. See below.

How could I justify this?
I can make anything alright
But what do you know about sacrifice?
You are no lamb

Any man a creep
Any man deserving
Any man

Idk If today I can finish all of their albums today cuz I have school tomorrow, but tomorrow I definitely will and I will tell you which vocalist I think its the best

I was not expecting someone that makes metalcore music to be a teacher lol

Yea the songs definitely sound ahead of their time

I just showed my dad the band and he actually already knew them and he said that their first album is the best one

Woah!! Mirin your dad! Must be cool to have a dad like that around. And no worries, school comes first. It’d be impossible to listen to five albums, especially when you’re in Europe I assume, and it’s almost midnight. Haha yep, I wouldn’t have expected he was an English teacher either but he is.
