That’s actually pretty cool.It's a reference to the astrophysical phenomenon called gravity darkening, i.e. the change in energy flux at the surface of a star resulting from the change in local effective gravity. On rapidly rotating stars, a dark equator and bright poles can easily be seen.
The main reason is that it sounds good, and emphasising the dark side is cooler
