Do you mean Mycenaeans (ancient greeks) or Greeks from the classical era? The former were the antecedents of the classical Greeks we know so well (era of philosophers and mathematicians) and their language laid the foundation for more modern Greek.

Mycenaeans were Indo-Europeans. Their civilization crumbled into a dark age from which the classical Greeks emerged. Classical Greeks were probably of Mycenaen descent mixed with Dorian, Ionian etc (other Greek tribes)

They speculate Dorian invasions might have caused the collapse of Mycenaean culture and the Greek dark age.

It's all murky though when you go back that far in history.
