I asked three people (one white, one black, one mulatta) to choose which song they preferred.
White preferred #1, black and mulatta preferred #2

They said "1 is bedtime music + white people can't dance"

Why so?
song sounds dated and just sounds like a 2000s sound track

Here’s a general prediction for how different demographic groups might engage with the Aphex Twin catalog based on cultural and musical trends. This analysis assumes broad generalizations, so specific behaviors within these groups can vary widely:

1. White Demographic

Behavior: Likely to engage with a significant portion of the catalog, with strong representation among electronic music enthusiasts, particularly in Europe and North America.

Reasoning:

• Aphex Twin has a massive cult following in Europe, especially the UK, where electronic music has deep roots.

• White audiences involved in subcultures like IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), ambient, and experimental music are likely to appreciate the whole catalog, with minimal skipping.

Specific Tracks: Classics like Windowlicker and Come to Daddy might attract casual listeners, while deeper cuts from Selected Ambient Works 85-92 or Drukqs may resonate with die-hard fans.

2. Asian Demographic

Behavior: Moderate engagement with selective tracks; less likely to embrace the entire catalog but may resonate with his experimental or ambient pieces.

Reasoning:

• East Asian countries (e.g., Japan, South Korea) are known for their affinity for experimental and ambient music, which aligns with albums like Selected Ambient Works Volume II.

• South Asian and Southeast Asian audiences may be less engaged unless involved in niche electronic or avant-garde music communities.

Specific Tracks: Ambient works and less abrasive tracks (e.g., Avril 14th) may be retained more than his harsher, more chaotic pieces.

3. Hispanic Demographic

Behavior: Likely to engage with specific tracks, particularly those with rhythmic or accessible qualities, but less likely to explore or retain the entire catalog.

Reasoning:

• Latin music culture heavily emphasizes rhythm and melody. Aphex Twin’s catalog, which leans into abstraction and atmosphere, may feel less intuitive.

• Younger Hispanic audiences with exposure to EDM and experimental music may selectively enjoy iconic tracks like Windowlicker or Xtal.

Specific Tracks: Tracks with clear beats or grooves, such as Xtal or On, may be more popular than abstract pieces like those from Drukqs.

4. Black Demographic

Behavior: Limited engagement with Aphex Twin’s catalog overall, with potential niche appreciation among electronic music fans or producers.

Reasoning:

• Black music audiences in the US and UK often gravitate toward genres with strong rhythmic foundations (e.g., hip-hop, house, techno) rather than Aphex Twin’s more abstract or ambient styles.

• There may be stronger engagement in subcultures influenced by experimental electronic music, particularly in techno hubs like Detroit.

Specific Tracks: Tracks with percussive or techno-like qualities (e.g., Alberto Balsalm or Digeridoo) might find more retention among black audiences.

I mean, for me It's more like the feeling/mood. 1 Reminds me of minecraft would put as an OST Track but 2 is something straight out of the matrix and like rave weird feeling i dont like 2. I like 1 because it sounds happy

I don't get how people genuinely enjoy that? Music to me has to have more of an energy to it.

It’s always been one of my favorite Aphex Twin songs. I like Didgeridoo too but other than SAW2 some of his early ‘90s stuff sounds kinda outdated.

I wonder why all the black people chose 2 over 1

I showed the mulatto the full catalog and she called it "bedtime music"

Wait until she hears Lichen or Stone in Focus. I listen to a lot of ambient and quieter music and people comment on it like that.
