Ww2 is still too modern you have gotten killed by some fighter plane flying above or some bomb that dropped in your location without any warning or fighting chance
Yeah thats a good choice, i think early WW1 or certain fronts of the war would also fall under this categoryRusso Japanese wars. Calvary was still relevant. While weapons like machine guns and grenades had entered the battlefield they were not yet fast, portable or efficient enough to dominate . This gave ground troops a real fighting chance and battles still depended on close combat formations, and maneuvering.
There were also no airstrikes, drones, or long-range precision weapons capable of wiping out forces from a distance. Death didn't fall from the sky without warning. War was brutal but it was still largely fought face-to-face
As a child I always saw war with some rose tinted glass like i couldn't imagine anything more exhilarating and fulfilling than fighting in a war. I'm not talking about doing the 20 weeks of training and getting a patrol job for those career benefits, I'm talking about actually getting sent into battle and fighting, with the goal of killing the other side before they kill you.Yeah thats a good choice, i think early WW1 or certain fronts of the war would also fall under this category
I agree heavily. When I was a kid I had the same thoughts, but i never associated with modern warfare, but rather historical eras, especially WW1.As a child I always saw war with some rose tinted glass like i couldn't imagine anything more exhilarating and fulfilling than fighting in a war. I've read a fair amount of novels about characters going to war. Imagine how exciting it would be to run through fields with your gun, take orders from your superiors, fire artillery, etc. It all seems so honorable and romantic. Atleast that is what i thought before I served in the army in reality bjt Modern fighting is not the same.
People LDAR and suddenly get killed by a drone/air strike. Nothing exciting about it. They don't even get to see the enemy. They might hear a projectile flying 2 seconds before their death and that's the only adrenaline rush you'll ever get. Also in the modern world you arr
E fighting not for your country or your people but to protect someone's revenue stream. There's no honor in it anymore. @widdi @imontheloose @FaceandBBC

Men no longer die honourably, sadly. Despite my moral nihilism, I can emotively appreciate the heroic acts one does when fighting for his land and folk.As a child I always saw war with some rose tinted glass like i couldn't imagine anything more exhilarating and fulfilling than fighting in a war.
