Fast food and most indoor jobs are worse than peasantry honestly
At least as a peasant you could experience the land

I worked at a laundry factory for a hospital.

11 hour shifts abt 17 an hour.

Bags would come down a conveyor belt filled with hospital garments and rags

Your job was to open them lol

Ambiguous body fluids would fly in your face and immigrants would look at you weird and gossip abt you at lunch

It was lonely and depressing as fuck and I quit after the first day

Fast food, warehouse work is fucking NOTHING to convertor belt stuff

There is always a job much worse, it is really incredible how awful most jobs are and how miserably you get paid for them. Baudrillard was right that “total work” involves the time at work, but also recovery from work, preparation for work, tools and clothes and the car you need for work. Even “free time” is considered a part of the total work system, like a scheduled break at the factory.

Worst job I had was a mechanic at a car shop. Horrible labor for awful pay. I think one that is not appreciated for how bad it could for the mind might actually be a teacher or day care worker, that looks like a nightmare. You have to spend hours at home grading papers, organizing stupid files and stuff like that in addition to the 9-5 slavery

the long grueling hours would kill almost anybody from pure exhaustion, that’s why we need to be respectful at all times to our favorite streamer, rakai

I like this total work theory, it was already part of my philosophy but it’s nice to see it’s actually a thing.

Also why autists get a raw deal as “recovery” probably takes more time than the actual work in many cases.
