Look at Botswana, its very possible. Just that many African leaders are very corrupt and prioritize personal wealth over their the countries' development. (Many African leaders with good intentions seemed to also get assasinated very frequently)

There are also way too many ethnic groups within many African countries. A lot of these countries would have less conflicts and thrive more if they had a more unified national identity rather than being divided by tribal and ethnic tensions.

Its also due to many African nations being created by colonial powers that had no regard for ethnic, linguistic or cultural groups.
Which led to internal conflicts and instablity until this day.
