Western media is acting in the geopolitical interests of America and nato. Maybe subconsciously they feel more empathetic towards them, since they are also European and ethno centrism is more dominant than other survival strategies in a Darwinian context.

Just being white isn't enough. Sure, it's enough for people to care a little bit instead of nothing about random strangers on the other side of the planet. But that's not what made the entire western world go into panic mode. If the Russians were the victims, despite being just as white as the Ukrainians, the west wouldn't have jumped in.

I think if the media pushes something people will care. The Russia V Ukraine war is talked about because a very small of group of people (maybe not even 20 people) who control multiple media outlets decided that people should care about it.

A lot of Amerimutt cels didn’t even know what Ukraine was much less it’s geographical location.
