I once saw a white subhuman lounging around in a public lobby barefoot with his socks off reeking of body odor. No one batted an eye. He was just seen as a quirky nigga. But if I as an Indian or any visibly ethnic person pulled the same stunt I would have started ww3 there itseld.. I’d be labeled uncivilized, unhygienic and lacking culture. There’s a double standard in how people perceive behavior based on race or ethnicity.
That’s why I put in so much effort every day. I make sure I’m always clean showering daily, wearing freshly ironed formal shirts and trousers polished dress shoes and a good-quality inoffensive fragrance. People sometimes ask why I go to such lengths and I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s not just about presentation it’s more about survival. It’s about distancing myself from the negative stereotypes constantly hanging over my head.
As an ethnic minority you're not seen as an individual you represent your entire group. One wrong move and it confirms every prejudice people already have. Meanwhile, white people are judged independently. They can be ugly, sloppy, rude, or clueless and no one assumes it reflects on their whole race. We ethnics don't get that privilege.
Sometimes it feels like I’m performing respectability just to be treated with basic decency. The worst part is, even when you try your best it might still not be enough
