Environmental factors. Asia is naturally more hot and moist. Therefore a flat maxilla is more ideal to resist the environement and aerodynamic factors including sweat and humidity.

You also have tribal Asians in northern asia and mixed Asians, who typically have forward growth. I am 1/4 Afrikaner and 3/4 Asian therefore I have good forward growth. My granddad (dad’s side) is Afrikaner. His face is projected. Grandpa on mom’s side (Asian) has little projection and flat maxilla.
