France colonized most of the african and north african world therefore many of them speak French or at the very least have some familiarity with it, like in my country we have almost all traffic signs in arabic and french, same with shops, etc. Obviously they want to go to a country whose language they speak and understand, it's as simple as that. They can go there, wageslave all year for 1000-2000 euro a month living like almost hobos and then live very good during the summer 1 or 2 months back in their countries, that's why you see a lot of them having crazy nice looking Mercedes cars which are above their real payroll and so on.

It's like South Americans going either to the US or Spain, or for example Angola and Brazilian diaspora in Portugal, Egyptians in Britain, Lybians in Italy, etc. If they have rich countries close, they go to them, like the massive amount of Egyptians in the gulf
