constant failure/rejection usually creates a negative feedback vicious cycle, not a 'desensitivizing to failure' effect

what usually happens is losers effect - lower T levels due to cortisol/distress which leads to less drive and self esteem; its a mechanism for self-preservation as a failure/defeat in the wilderness can be interpreted as potentially life threatening

so in order to preserve the animal it lowers it T levels so to make it less aggressive and ambitious, more avert to risk taking

thats the biochemical mechanism behind Alpha and Beta social dynamics in gregarious hierarchical animals
