why are politics and related topics so popular online?

i noticed that in the web, politics are popular as in there are lots of debates (muh nazis, muh communism, muh left/right wing) and they are of no fucking use, am i retarded and just cant grasp the concept? or its just a bunch of fourteen year olds trying to look cool and act mature?

All unmoderated sites where you go need a common denominator to appeal to. That is the stupid person. All the niche type groups are heavily moderated. 4chan has tons and tons of nonsense but some gems here and there. Itbis the fate of sites that allow everyone. Everything is watered down and generic like news and politics. If you notice unlike Pol. Sci there are no new arguments. Only circular ones that last a news cycle after which everyone forgets about the topic
