I'll explain this in car and watch logic to make it simple
This is Rolex Submariner
It's one of the most recognized timepieces in the world. It is "basic" every other rich guy has one but still extremely desirable. Rolex is known for making exceptional watches and remains the face of the Swiss watch industry everyone wants a Rolex. If you own this watch it means you have made it in life. It signifies wealth, status and success
This is Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Most people probably have never even heard of blancpain as a company let alone know this watch exists but it holds historical significance as the true pioneer of dive watches. It also insane craftsmanship with better watch design, finishing and movement inside yet the Submariner gets all the attention, the Fifty Fathoms largely flies under the radar. To most people it just looks like a cool watch rather than an iconic symbol that projects your status and success to the world
The same logic applies to luxury cars. A few-year-old Rolls-Royce Ghost is often more desirable than a brand-new Mercedes-Maybach, even though the Maybach is a modern, feature-packed luxury sedan. Rolls-Royce carries a level of prestige and exclusivity that makes even its older models more respected than a brand-new luxury car from a "lesser" ultra-luxury brand.
Brand Power is everything. Even if another product is objectively better, the brand with stronger recognition wins in desirability.
