It's all about rarity and connotations
Dark is more masculine
Light is more feminine

Also the rarities come into play. Women have darker eyes than men on average. Women will seek darker eyes, and men would seek more lighter.
But I think the bigger factor was the former

I think part of it also has to do with how light eyes takes the focus off bone structure, or you value it less. Whereas with darker eyes bone structure becomes more important.
It's a more dimorphic factor for a man's appeal

eye color is a halo, it can only improve you, having brown eyes won't descend you if that makes sense

It looks uglier and dumber, and well, lower trust. Again, I'd not call it a masculine trait, neither it is dimorphic.
