If you study any advanced society from ancient to premodern times, you’d begin to notice an interesting pattern. That regardless of time, geography or ethnicity, almost every culture and civilisation had placed some social restrictions on women
Some of it is was more extreme (like in Athens) and others were more lenient, however there was always an expectation that women had to be ‘kept in place’
Even as late the 1960s, women in the USA still had to get permission from their husbands to open a bank account
