He stabbed his roommates multiple times instead of just shooting them, if revenge was a secondary motive he wouldve have been so brutal about his stabbings and he wouldnt primarily rant about his rage in his videos over his lack of will to live.

Hes the exception though, most other shooters like adam lanza, dylan kleboid, cho, steven paddock, etc. do it due to suicidal ideation

Well, no doubt mass shooters harbor deep hatred of others in general, but the question is, from where does that hatred, and rage, originate?

I think with Rodger, his homicidal ideation developed out of his insecurities as is generally the case with young mass shooters. He had experienced marginalization since he was a child, and the narcissism and sense of entitlement he developed later in life were amplified by his victim complex.

It makes sense that he would put on display his rage in his videos, especially his last one which explained his motives. He had delusions of grandeur and wanted to announce his anger to the world after all, so one has to acknowledge the performative nature of what he posted in these videos when taking them into consideration.

But yes, I have no doubt that Rodger had revenge on his mind first and foremost, but my point is that the desire for revenge was rooted in a deep form of self-hatred, which culminated in a desire to die.

I think a major example that potentially serves as an exception here is actually Eric Harris, on second thought. He indicated signs of psychopathy in his journals but, more importantly, even expressed a desire to survive after his attack.
