At this age you already need to have an "identity", a status, to be someone, have an occupation, a title, a job, start a career, work towards something....
I remember that after I finished college, I started building websites and making nice money online working at home from my computer, this was in the earlier days of the Internet, when this stuff was rare and explaining to people what I did would just give me weird stares from them, they probably thought I was bullshitting them or something, in their eyes they probably only saw a NEET who still lives with his parents at home...
I later joined another university, and noticed that becoming back a student made people react more friendly to me - my status was now more clear in their eyes, they saw now probably just a young man working towards his career.
