Why do Indians walk on roads in the US?

I live in Dallas Texas and as some of you may know, this place is turning into little India. They bring all their culture over and preserve it in any way possible, but one aspect I just can understand. Why do these people love walking on roads when there is a sidewalk 5 feet away from them? I mean I was driving to my house today and nearly ran them over because they refused to move. I can’t even do anything about it since I’m the only white person in the neighborhood. Is this a cultural thing? Pure retardation (most probably) or something deeper?
