Why do landwhales hate being compared to actual women?

One time I told a group of landwhales who were asking me about my trip to Croatia. "the people there are so thin , I better stop talking before I get in trouble." (keep in mind these people were all fat.) They all looked angry

Another time I told a landwhale "wow people at the gym look so different from people here." She seemed angry for some reason?

Whats wrong with comparing 2 people? Its like saying "Tom wears a hat, but Bill does not." What can be offensive about that?
