Why do old farts buy 30 packs of beer and say “time to get drunk”

I was at the store and some old fart grabbed a huge pack of beer and said he’s about to get drunk later. I don’t get it though. Why drink 30 cans of beer to get drunk when you can bypass all that liquid and get drunk with one glass of liquor on an empty stomach? That’s something I don’t get about some people. That’s a good method to get drunk fast. Wake up, skip breakfast, and down a glass of vodka. Then once you feel too sick just eat and make it all go away

It becomes ritualistic after a while tbh, its not really socially acceptable to down a handle of vodka but “beers with the boys” is fine. When the habit spirals into worse alcoholism they keep the old social rituals they had before. Also long-term drinkers especially older dudes like the taste, whereas vodka is pretty nasty regardless of how long you’ve been drinking it
