IQ matters quite a bit if you intend to be a STEMcel. I'm not sure how much it matters outside of that if you're at least average. The g-factor is definitely real though and IQ tests do a very good job of measuring it. Having an IQ in the 80's has definitely made my life significantly more difficult.
