I'm talking about young people who go to math contests, rubik cube tournaments, young inventor competitions, etc. - they all look like crap, there's not a single "Chad" among them, how come the world's smartest people are also the ugliest and most likely it would be very difficult for them to find a partner and pass on their genes.

I don't remember any study that claimed this, most studies actually say that attractive people are perceived by others to be smarter, which also doesn't quite make sense to me: personally, if I see a bunch of jocks or pretty-boys that look like models, the last thing that goes through my mind is "Wow! these people are smart!".

to be fair most of public figures that are known not for their scandalous behavior probably have higher than average intelligent (any kind, though IQ would be the most convenient)
