Why do so many people believe something special awaits them after they die?

I understand the motives of religious morons, but i noticed many non-religious people are also on the fence about this

What are the reasons for holding such childish beliefs?

And spare me of the bullshit about transforming into some sort of higher energy, no one really cares about that. We are all about eating, fucking and browsing the internet

I understand your confusion but this is a somewhat stupid question, nobody wants to believe that they will live and die for nothing, that everything they work for and earn will be removed by father time, it's brutal and unpleasant

Sure, but there are still no hints that that's a possibility. Prolonging the survival of our species through hard work, progress and procreating, sure, but fantasy scenarios after you die ... 0 indicators this is plausible

I m really envious of people who genuinely believe in afterlife

humans don't care about how possible or plausible something is, if they want to ignore the likelihood of there being nothing after death, they can. Natural selection would never allow for entirely rational people, they simply wouldn't reproduce or survive

Ask what the fuck they would even do as some sort of immaterial ghost for literally all of eternity and watch how they can't even think of anything. It's just the fear of death that drives this, not wanting to die but once you think of the afterlife scenario in and of itself you see it might not be all that desirable or make sense at all.

I went to Christian union at school one time and asked the guy if you could just play Skyrim for eternity in heaven and he said yes

Cope and hope. Things that are less prevalent here l.

The denial of the end of their existence is a consequence of the impossibility of the mind to comprehend non existence
Still don’t see how existence having an end renders it absurd.

The internet is a lot like the after life.

Can you create a planet or perhaps, accidentally create one? And if you can, can you create millions of them as well as massive powerful spheres of unadulterated unfathomable fire?

If not, stfu!

My believe is the state after death is the same state you were in before birth.

that's because non-existence is pure nonsense

because not wanting to die is fundamental. read The Denial of Death by Ernest Becker. on a deep emotional level you probably believe you're going to live forever too

What awaits you when you die is a false tunnel of light designed to reincarnate you and reptilians and other demonic entities disguising themselves as loved ones, angels and spirit guides.

Think about this...if a glass fell to the floor and brakes into pieces..its fundamental existence as an object is destroyed..the same is with our brain. conciuousness Is the result of electrical activity in the brain which is shutted Down once whe die.

Whatever happens after death just happens, our brain wants to feel safe and create all these concepts about ourselves and the world

i hope god allows me to just simply die and not force me to participate in afterlife

so you really don't think its crazy how every aspect of existence is fine tuned JUST RIGHT for life? how crazy it is how giga unique humans are?

i'm one of the fence sitters, i think the above shows theres a good chance theres SOMETHING beyond just boring everyday life

It would be the same if it had no end tho, wouldn't it?
usually when people say theres an afterlife they also say theres some kind of god or higher purpose too

i'd love to live in nirn (elder scrolls universe). i have recurring wish fulfillment dreams about it

People have a hard time facing the reality: we're not as special as we think we are.

While we're the most evolved species of the globe, our destiny will be same as the smashed cockroach: eternal nothingness.

To me it can go either way. I just hope that suffering will end when I die, whether there will be expierience or not is secondary

Terrible argument, there is nothing fine tuned for anything, not intentionally so. Every universe that exists at all will have its own parameters and anything that exists within it will be a result of a certain "configuration". The outcomes of a system are dependent on the system. There's nothing unusual about this. if I bake cake ingredients in a pan, I get a cake.
We're basically saying "these are the ingredients for cake, and nothing else would yield cake." Which is self-evident.

If we were absolutely sure that no patterns of any kind could form in any other way this might imply tuning, but that's nonsense. The outcomes are outcomes of this system. If it were another system the outcomes would belong to that system. Anyway I don't see that even if any intentional fine tuning is demonstrated it would follow by logic and necessity that we have eternal life.
