Why do some guys call their son “bud” or “dude”

Picture this;

A white man with shorts on, sandals, a baseball cap, and sunglasses. His son is a skinny white kid with a short haircut. The kid is acting up and grabbing stuff and the dad says “cmon bud, don’t touch that” or “get up dude” with a loud overtly masculine voice
