It's because skin colour genetics aren't black and white (literally). It's very complicated and I'm a laymen who will not go beyond his lane. But the fact Southern Europeans and Italians in general are more phenotypically diverse added onto that mixed European.

If someone who has PARTIAL origins from the part of Southern Italy with LIGHTEST AVERAGE PIGMENTATION looks borderline Armenian, why wouldn't people from Apulia or Sicily who are amongst the most pigmented in the WHOLE OF EUROPE?
