Believe me, I'm in no way, shape or form a pedophile and I despise people abusing young kids who don't have a clue about sex or relationships yet.

But why does society turn such a blind eye when other immoral things like looksshaming occur? It's literally completely fine to make fun of someone or threat them in a degrading manner due to the way the bones in their face are positioned. How can you spend so much attention and crying on people fucking kids with the left hand, and then totally ignore looksshaming with the other hand?

Both have an immense influence on development mentally. Bullying in childhood can scar people forever and physical insecurity is reaching an all time high. If you're gonna cry about 1 thing affecting kids development, you have to take everything into account. Yet degrading ppl because of their looks is completely fine in our society and literally happens even in elderly and full on adults.

I think there are multiple reasons for why shaming someone for looks can't be taken as seriously (you're right to an extent, just like child abuse, years of bullying and torment can be just as bad or even worse depending on the severity, why you have teens kiiling themselves).

Firstly, it's hard to measure bullying since for the most part everyone gets involved in it to a certain degree (someone may bully you constantly while someone else may do it indirectly or someone might not bully you but they may just tolerate since they don't care). Bullying is looked down upon or at least they try to stop it in schools, however, their approach is terrible and puts the victim in worse situations, I know the best way to get rid of bully is beating them up, however, this runs the risk of you getting in trouble with school then your parents so it's not great.

Secondly, it's an unconscious bias that people have to be less empathetic towards ugly people so it's harder to confront since (I'm sure you've realised by now) people are sheep and lack the self awareness to realise how involved they are. It's uncomfortable to realize that you treat people different based on how they look so I think most people live in denial about it and ignore their part in it.

Thirdly, kids in general are non-confrontrational so while people may be against what's happening to you, they're scared to do anything about it because they'll either become an outcast or also get bullied.

Idk I think those are the reasons because logically everyone knows bullying is wrong yet we don't do much about it
