Why does the sun make my hair look lighter?

I always thought I had black hair my entire life. That was until I looked at pictures of me as a young kid and my hair was actually brown

It’s especially visible when the sun shines bright, my hair looks brunette, even somewhat copper

Does anyone else experience this?
