Parental investment is time, energy, resources a parent uses on an offspring. Women have to carry a child for 9 months and are more responsible for taking care of the child while men went out to hunt.

A man can cum as many times as he wants, while a woman can only have so many kids. That's why a woman has to be pickier; their resources are more limited. Obviously this doesn't entirely apply nowadays but it's an evolutionary trait women inherited.
