There are a million things that dont make sense in human evolution, balding is probably one of those things that is a combination of a number of genetic factors that just happen to add up to an unfavorable result. Populations from America almost never go bald and once some genius scientist identifies what that genetic difference is and how he can use it for the rest of the world he will be a rich man

if we look at hair two things catch our attention

1. it seems have to have no big purpose in a sense human would need it for suvival.
2. older people are more affected by hairloss but there are old people with an intact hair and young people with no hair. so even if age plays a big role its not the only cause (in opposite to lets say skinfolds)


so why is hair still attractive?

to point 1: even thoug hair has no direct purpose women still find it attractive because its something that biologist would call an "honest signal of genetic quality". honest because it cant be faked (until recently at least and the female brain and attraction cant catch up so fast), signal because it can be seen instantly and good genetic quality because hair its a sign for a genetic good cardiovascular system (too lazy to link the studies but bald people are statistically significant morel likely to die from an heartattache etc compared to fullheads). the younger you are when you lose your hair the less quality and potential your cardiovascular system has. thats why hairloss looks more upsetting in younger people.

to point 2: even though its not linked to ageing 100% balding is still..linked to ageing somehow. it makes you appear older. thats why younger women who naturally go for younger men are less forgiving regarding balding then compared to lets say 40 year old women

last but not least balding can fuck up the facial ratios by increasing your perceived forehead height which also decreases your attractviness

your whole face is basically an "honest signal" too. projecting cheekbones have no real benefit, same goes for a symmetri face but their symbolize factors that are indeed beneficial for survival etc.
