hunter gatherers burn 3.5k calories on average, they have to eat all day to not die, you pretty much can't get fat living that lifestyle.

keep in mind, these are measurements performed on modern day hunter gatherers, who are rather short and living in warm climates (colder climates burn more calories), they are eating that much and their bmi is still 20, if you're a 6'+ feet man that's 200lbs you'd burn like 5k calories a day living as hunter gatherer.

We're monkeys at the end of the day, so being lean means carrying less weight, so you're more agile & fast and can more easily procure food for a longer period of time. It also puts less strain on your cardiovascular system, joints, bones etc. so you can still be agile as you get older..

These things are associated by the monkey brain with a better/higher capacity/ability to manage to keep the family alive for longer..

But on the other hand, if you're fat, it's associated with sickness, disability, lower life expectancy, and inability to protect those around you..

Much of what's attractive is culturally determined, and signifiers of other things.

Leanness signifies delayed gratification, and self control, which leads to success in all areas of life.

This is further amplified by Hollywood, which picks the people we already find attractive, and make us even more attracted to that specific type of person.

Another thing is, people who's ancestors lived through famines and had long periods of lack of food are more likely to store higher levels of bodyfat, to survive famines. People who's ancestors were rich and never had to starve in famines, are more likely to be lean. So again it's an indication of wealth, in this case family wealth.

Back in the day when food was hard to get people viewed fat people as attractive, for example kings. Kings back in the day had basically unlimited supply of food or at least the same access to the amount of food we have now. Now that food and calories and extremely easy to obtain it is viewed more attractive to be lean since it’s harder to control your eating habits since food is so easy to obtain. So basically what’s harder is viewed as more attractive
