Hypergamy always existed. But women have more options to express it now because of social media, economic freedom, more chances where people of opposite sex mingle etc. Back then many women may have to settle with non chads and never cheat because they might be living in remote countryside where there are no much chads and she don't have any resources to live independently if she cheats and husband dumps her. Now a woman can live independently with her own money in a big city where there are Lot's of chads. Getting a boyfriend for them is only just an addition
