Social media is the easiest way for shit to gain traction, so when people use it like this it will undoubtedly help the cause. Add to this the fact that corporations are also doing it, even if it is just for soy points. Most people online aren't capable of doing that shit, weather it be for any reason. No matter how much I care about an issue I couldn't see myself forming a group or trying to bring it to congress, even if it affects me a lot, and I think most people are like that tbh.

Posting images about blackouttuesday or blacklivesmatter on instagram and twitter however will raise awareness and social importance substantially, and maybe someone more capable than myself could speak out and do those exact things
