"Self-improvement" is basically looksmaxxing but without the surgeries and steroids. And since you cannot in most cases do anything without surgery or steroids, you have to incorporate psychological mechanisms designed to cope with your unattractiveness in your ideology. (Although, those mechanisms may have some truth to them and slightly work, but they are built upon an unstable house of cards - unattractiveness).
Hamza's transformation showcased on his website, is premised upon him improving his appearance and reaping the rewards thereof, all the other advertisements of using psychological strategies to garner social respect and female validation, are a big coping mechanism unless used without first achieving a baseline looks threshold.
(P.S the above "transformation" is one of the most disgusting I have come across)
