People have spoken to no end on this, whether it works or not, yada yada, but always leave this key detail out.
The concept of thumbpulling relies on the principle that pressure applied to the palate laterally will cause the midpalatal suture to move apart.
This is pretty much the same concept of a Maxillary Skeletal Expander. They both apply posterior lateral force to the palate. It uses the exact same principle as thumbpulling, with the MSE being obviously proven to work
HOWEVER, THE RESULTS ARE CLEARLY NOT THE SAME!
WITH MSE, WHERE THE FORCE IS BEING APPLIED POSTERIORLY LIKE IN THUMBPULLING, ITS EFFECT AND SUCCESSFUL EXPANSION SHOWS UP IN THE FRONT TEETH IN A VERY OBVIOUS GAP THAT IS THE EVIDENCE OF ITS EFFICACY. It doesn't magically just widen the arch in the area near the molars
Now let's look at popular thumbpullers!
Zero gap despite using the same mechanism in theory!
What more needs to be said?
