Wider jaw

I have a problem where my teeth are too close together, my jaworthopaedic recommends getting jaw widening surgery, wich would partially fracture my jaw and then push it appart with a screw to create space for teeth, my jawline is pretty good but my face is rather oval and thin from the front. Is a wider jaw always more masculine looking and desirable. Should i just go for it?
